Course objectives
This course offers a survey of British Literature from Romanticism through to the final phase of the Victorian era. The course will focus on three areas, poetry, fiction and social/cultural philosophy. Writers considered will include Wordsworth, Keats, Tennyson, Clough, Hopkins, Austen, Bronte, Dickens, Eliot, Hardy, Darwin, Arnold and Ruskin.

Assessment by class contribution (25%), seminar paper (25%), essay (50%)
