Course objectives
The course will familiarize students with the structure of the church administration in the Czech lands (dioceses of Prague, Olomouc and Litomyšl) from around 1300 to 1419. The seminars will present the individual church authorities of Prague, as well as the Olomouc and Litomyšl dioceses: their genesis and development, their day-to-day running and written agendas. Documents from the individual authorities will be read and analyzed, and the numerous possibilities for their use in the context of historical research will be highlighted in essays.
Learning outcomes
In the seminars, students will be able to work with one important group of sources on Czech Medieval history and, as part of their essay preparation, will extend their experience with the general methodology of historical research.
