Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce learners to the principles of leadership and people management. The course will be led by Petr Pouchlý, managing director of the Court of Moravia consulting agency, who invites a number of guests from practice to the course each semester.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students: - understand the basics of how to work with the team they are expected to lead (be part of) - know what qualities to improve in themselves if they want to become a good leader (boss) - understand the difference between managing people and leading people - understand the methods of project management and how to work in a team - recognise different personality typologies for teamwork - lay the foundations for their future professional career in a leadership position
Syllabus
  • 1. Personality of a leader - importance of leadership for a team/group - difference between a manager and a leader - leading/managing people - free qualities and assumptions 2. There is no boss like a boss - Czech practice in people management - management styles (benefits/advantages) - personalities and their work Who is my team 3. Personality methodology - importance of sociology and psychology for team building - personality psychology tests (MBTI, Bochumsky, Belbin, Enneagram) - team building 4. Team selection - rectruitment vs. assessment - talent management - gender/expat issues What's the point 5. Team member life cycle - start with Why? - motivation and its importance in management - competency model and individual development 6. Motivation in a team - team vs. individual motivation - teambuilding/teamspirit - KPIs and team alignment within the organization 7. Feedback - importance and relevance of feedback - active listening - leadership techniques and evaluation Application in practice 8. Communication - internal/external communication and its rules - ways of distributing information in the organization - how to work, not just "communicate" 9. Crisis management - definition and causes - methods of application - impact on the team/organization 10. Corporate environment - the rules of the barrel - local vs. global corporations - prisoner's dilemma between team and superiors 11. How to survive as a leader - interpersonal relationships - bossing vs. mobbing - finance, prestige, career ladder 12. Team without a boss - agile work organization methodologies (HCD, Scrum) - benefits and pitfalls - practical application 13. Me, the leader - life/work balance - gaining experience and its evaluation - psychological resilience
