Course objectives
Main objectives are to make students acquainted with the background of Early Greek art (Geometric and Archaic period), to show them the analytic methods of the main themes of the sculpture and depicting of Greek centres. The students have to elaborate an essay regarding selected theme and prove their abilities to study scientific literature. At the end of this course they should be able to understand the evolution of this period of Greek art and be acquainted with the principal archaeological material and analyse them using the knowledge of the principal contemporary achievements in this specialisation.
Syllabus
  • Main aim of the seminar is to practise and analyze the main issues of Early Greek art (sculpture, vase pictures of the geometric, orientalising, daedalic, archaic period - to recognize the local schools and main streams of continental, insular and Ionian Greece. The second main theme represents the analysis of the written evidence not only about Greek visual arts but also about cultural background of its particular areas (based upon the texts of Pausanias and Herodotos).

(Na letní semestr si vyberou referát o určité památce nebo dílčím problému z vývoje řeckého umění.) Vypracování referátu a aktivní účast na semináři je podmínkou k získání zápočtů a k povolení souborné zkoušky.

Course objectives
Main objectives are to make students acquainted with the background of Early Greek art (Geometric and Archaic period), to show them the analytic methods of the main themes of the sculpture and depicting of Greek centres. The students have to elaborate an essay regarding selected theme and prove their abilities to study scientific literature. At the end of this course they should be able to understand the evolution of this period of Greek art and be acquainted with the principal archaeological material and analyse them using the knowledge of the principal contemporary achievements in this specialisation.

  • Main aim of the seminar is to practise and analyze the main issues of Early Greek art (sculpture, vase pictures of the geometric, orientalising, daedalic, archaic period - to recognize the local schools and main streams of continental, insular and Ionian Greece. The second main theme represents the analysis of the written evidence not only about Greek visual arts but also about cultural background of its particular areas (based upon the texts of Pausanias and Herodotos).

Course objectives
Main objectives are to make students acquainted with the background of Early Greek art (Geometric and Archaic period), to show them the analytic methods of the main themes of the sculpture and depicting of Greek centres. The students have to elaborate an essay regarding selected theme and prove their abilities to study scientific literature. At the end of this course they should be able to understand the evolution of this period of Greek art and be acquainted with the principal archaeological material and analyse them using the knowledge of the principal contemporary achievements in this specialisation.
Syllabus
  • Main aim of the seminar is to practise and analyze the main issues of Early Greek art (sculpture, vase pictures of the geometric, orientalising, daedalic, archaic period - to recognize the local schools and main streams of continental, insular and Ionian Greece. The second main theme represents the analysis of the written evidence not only about Greek visual arts but also about cultural background of its particular areas (based upon the texts of Pausanias and Herodotos).
