Course objectives
The lecture presents the main structure, theory and topics of the Roman Imperial art from the 1st to the 3rd century A. D. At the end of this course students should be able to understand evolution od roman art in main periods from the first century B. C. to the end of the 3rd century A. D., interpret main monuments and their iconography

  • - Rome and its arts during the principiate, influence of the Hellenistic style, Roman decorative arts arts and Greek legacy, Atticism
  • - Establishing Roman synthesis and its layering
  • - Personal and common architecture
  • - Augustan period and its significance for the state representative art formation (connection of Roman content and Greek form)
  • - Iulio-Claudian period, portrait, historical relief and painting
  • - Flavian art and architecture
  • - Traian classicism - the peak of Roman synthesis in portraiture and historical relief
  • - Hadrian classicism - esthetic romantism, beginnings of spirituality

Course objectives
The lecture presents the main structure, theory and topics of the Roman Imperial art from the 1st to the 3rd century A. D. At the end of this course students should be able to understand evolution od roman art in main periods from the first century B. C. to the end of the 3rd century A. D., interpret main monuments and their iconography

Přednáška podává výklad vývoje římského výtvarného umění, jeho formy, zabývá se významem římského reprezentativního umění v době císařské.
Syllabus (in Czech)
  • Řím a výtvarné umění v průběhu principátu, vliv helénistického stylu, římské dekorativní umění a řecké dědictví, atticismus. Utváření římské syntézy a její vrstevnatost. Soukromá a veřejná architektura. Augustovské období a jeho význam pro formování státního reprezentativního umění (spojení římského obsahu a řecké formy). Julsko-claudiovské období, portrét, historický reliéf a malířství. Flaviovské umění a architektura. Trajánovský klasicismus - vrchol římské syntézy v portrétu a historickém reliéfu. Hadrianovský klasicismus - estetický romantismus, počátky spirituality, antoninovské umění - barokizace slohu, nárůst expresivních prvků.

Přednáška podává výklad vývoje římského výtvarného umění, jeho formy, zabývá se významem římského reprezentativního umění v době císařské.
Syllabus (in Czech)
  • Řím a výtvarné umění v průběhu principátu, vliv helénistického stylu, římské dekorativní umění a řecké dědictví, atticismus. Utváření římské syntézy a její vrstevnatost. Soukromá a veřejná architektura. Augustovské období a jeho význam pro formování státního reprezentativního umění (spojení římského obsahu a řecké formy). Julsko-claudiovské období, portrét, historický reliéf a malířství. Flaviovské umění a architektura. Trajánovský klasicismus - vrchol římské syntézy v portrétu a historickém reliéfu. Hadrianovský klasicismus - estetický romantismus, počátky spirituality, antoninovské umění - barokizace slohu, nárůst expresivních prvků.

The lecture presents the main structure, theory and topics of the Roman Imperial art from the 1st to the 3rd century A. D. At the end of this course students should be able to understand evolution od roman art in main periods from the first century B. C. to the end of the 3rd century A. D., interpret main monuments and their iconography

The lecture presents the main structure, theory and topics of the Roman Imperial art from the 1st to the 3rd century A. D. At the end of this course students should be able to understand evolution od roman art in main periods from the first century B. C. to the end of the 3rd century A. D., interpret main monuments and their iconography

Course objectives
The lecture presents the main structure, theory and topics of Roman Imperial art from the 1st to the 3rd century A. D.
Syllabus
  • - Rome and its arts during the principiate, influence of the Hellenistic style, Roman decorative arts arts and Greek legacy, Atticism
  • - Establishing Roman synthesis and its layering
  • - Personal and common architecture
  • - Augustan period and its significance for the state representative art formation (connection of Roman content and Greek form)
  • - Iulio-Claudian period, portrait, historical relief and painting
  • - Flavian art and architecture
  • - Traian classicism - the peak of Roman synthesis in portraiture and historical relief
  • - Hadrian classicism - esthetic romantism, beginnings of spirituality
  • - Antonian art - the increase of expressive elements

Přednáška podává výklad vývoje římského výtvarného umění, jeho formy, zabývá se významem římského reprezentativního umění v době císařské.
Syllabus (in Czech)
  • Řím a výtvarné umění v průběhu principátu, vliv helénistického stylu, římské dekorativní umění a řecké dědictví, atticismus. Utváření římské syntézy a její vrstevnatost. Soukromá a veřejná architektura. Augustovské období a jeho význam pro formování státního reprezentativního umění (spojení římského obsahu a řecké formy). Julsko-claudiovské období, portrét, historický reliéf a malířství. Flaviovské umění a architektura. Trajánovský klasicismus - vrchol římské syntézy v portrétu a historickém reliéfu. Hadrianovský klasicismus - estetický romantismus, počátky spirituality, antoninovské umění - barokizace slohu, nárůst expresivních prvků.
