Course objectives

The course exploring the history of the 20th-century Russian literature is based on a new conception of interpretation of the development of Russian literature, with respect to the intellectual, cultural and socio-political changes that have taken place in Russia. It concentrates on three sections of literature: the best pieces of the officially published literature, Underground Literature and Emigration Literature. The emphasis is laid on the phenomenon of post-modernism and the post-modern poetics as well as the analysis of both the ideological and morphological aspects of the language of fiction.

Syllabus

• 1. The evolution and literary streams or movements of the 20th-century Russian literature that reflects the phenomenon of reassessment of cultural values in connection with the political changes in the late 20th century. The ideological and aesthetic intentions of the Russian literary process in the 20th century.
• 2. The range of styles in the 1920’s and 1930’s Russian poetry - e.g. Majakovskiy, Yesenin, Boris Pasternak and Akhmatova
• 3. The styles and genre modifications of the 1920’s and 1930’s Russian prose: neo-realism – e.g. Zamyatin, analytical realism – e.g. Sholokhov, metaphorical realism – e.g. Bulgakov, Ilf-Petrov and Platonov, and romanticism – e.g. Grin and Prishvin.
• 4. The literature of the period of The Great Patriotic War - the genres, ideological content and the leading figures.
• 5. The fundamental streams or movements in the poetry of the second half of the 20th century – e.g. Yevtushenko, Okudžava, Vysockij, Sosnora, etc.
• 6. The evolution of the 20th-century novel – e.g. Zamyatin, Sholokhov, Bulgakov, Pasternak, Solzhenicyn and Ajtmatov.
• 7. The dynamics and development of small epic forms in the Russian literature of the 20th century – e.g. Sholokhov, Zoshchenko, Platonov, Rasputin, Shukchin and Nagibin.
• 8. The problems of the 20th-century Russian satire, the forms and genres – e.g. Majakovskiy, Erenburg, Zoshchenko, Platonov, Bulgakov and Shukshin.
• 9. The new forms and artistic means in the Russian drama – e.g. Mayakovskiy, Bulgakov, Shvarz, Vampilov, Gorin and Petrushevskaya.
• 10. The epic and psychological stream in the Russian early post-war literature – e.g- Sholokhov, Nyekrasov, Bondarev, Vasiljev and Astafyev.

Course objectives

The course exploring the history of the 20th-century Russian literature is based on a new conception of interpretation of the development of Russian literature, with respect to the intellectual, cultural and socio-political changes that have taken place in Russia. It concentrates on three sections of literature: the best pieces of the officially published literature, Underground Literature and Emigration Literature. The emphasis is laid on the phenomenon of post-modernism and the post-modern poetics as well as the analysis of both the ideological and morphological aspects of the language of fiction.

• 3. The styles and genre modifications of the 1920’s and 1930’s Russian prose: neo-realism – e.g. Zamyatin, analytical realism – e.g. Sholokhov, metaphorical realism – e.g. Bulgakov, Ilf-Petrov and Platonov, and romanticism – e.g. Grin and Prishvin.
• 4. The literature of the period of The Great Patriotic War - the genres, ideological content and the leading figures.
• 5. The fundamental streams or movements in the poetry of the second half of the 20th century – e.g. Yevtushenko, Okudžava, Vysockij, Sosnora, etc.
• 6. The evolution of the 20th-century novel – e.g. Zamyatin, Sholokhov, Bulgakov, Pasternak, Solzhenicyn and Ajtmatov.
• 7. The dynamics and development of small epic forms in the Russian literature of the 20th century – e.g. Sholokhov, Zoshchenko, Platonov, Rasputin, Shukchin and Nagibin.
• 8. The problems of the 20th-century Russian satire, the forms and genres – e.g. Majakovskiy, Erenburg, Zoshchenko, Platonov, Bulgakov and Shukshin.
• 9. The new forms and artistic means in the Russian drama – e.g. Mayakovskiy, Bulgakov, Shvarz, Vampilov, Gorin and Petrushevskaya.

Course objectives

The course exploring the history of the 20th-century Russian literature is based on a new conception of interpretation of the development of Russian literature, with respect to the intellectual, cultural and socio-political changes that have taken place in Russia. It concentrates on three sections of literature: the best pieces of the officially published literature, Underground Literature and Emigration Literature. The emphasis is laid on the phenomenon of post-modernism and the post-modern poetics as well as the analysis of both the ideological and morphological aspects of the language of fiction.

Syllabus

• 1. The evolution and literary streams or movements of the 20th-century Russian literature that reflects the phenomenon of reassessment of cultural values in connection with the political changes in the late 20th century. The ideological and aesthetic intentions of the Russian literary process in the 20th century.
• 2. The range of styles in the 1920’s and 1930’s Russian poetry - e.g. Majakovskiy, Yesenin, Boris Pasternak and Akhmatova
• 3. The styles and genre modifications of the 1920’s and 1930’s Russian prose: neo-realism – e.g. Zamyatin, analytical realism – e.g. Sholokhov, metaphorical realism – e.g. Bulgakov, Ilf-Petrov and Platonov, and romanticism – e.g. Grin and Prishvin.
• 4. The literature of the period of The Great Patriotic War - the genres, ideological content and the leading figures.

Course objectives

The course exploring the history of the 20th-century Russian literature is based on a new conception of interpretation of the development of Russian literature, with respect to the intellectual, cultural and socio-political changes that have taken place in Russia. It concentrates on three sections of literature: the best pieces of the officially published literature, Underground Literature and Emigration Literature. The emphasis is laid on the phenomenon of post-modernism and the post-modern poetics as well as the analysis of both the ideological and morphological aspects of the language of fiction.

Syllabus

• 1. The evolution and literary streams or movements of the 20th-century Russian literature that reflects the phenomenon of reassessment of cultural values in connection with the political changes in the late 20th century. The ideological and aesthetic intentions of the Russian literary process in the 20th century.
• 2. The range of styles in the 1920’s and 1930’s Russian poetry - e.g. Majakovskiy, Yesenin, Boris Pasternak and Akhmatova
• 3. The styles and genre modifications of the 1920’s and 1930’s Russian prose: neo-realism – e.g. Zamyatin, analytical realism – e.g. Sholokhov, metaphorical realism – e.g. Bulgakov, Ilf-Petrov and Platonov, and romanticism – e.g. Grin and Prishvin.
• 4. The literature of the period of The Great Patriotic War - the genres, ideological content and the leading figures.

Kurs dějin ruské literatury 20. století na základě nové koncepce interpretace vývoje ruské literatury s ohledem na změny v duchovním, kulturním a společensko-politickém životě Ruska. Předmětem je zkoumání tří vrstev literárního procesu: nejlepší díla oficiálně publikované literatury, díla literárního undergroundu a literární emigrace. Důraz se klade na fenomén postmodernismu a poetiky postmodernistické literatury, na analýzu myšlenkové i morfologické stránky uměleckého textu.

Syllabus (in Czech)

• Přednáška: Vývoj ruské literatury od r. 1917 až po závěr XX. stol., epocha osudového dějinného vychýlení, současně epocha překonávání "etického monismu"; stalinské ochlokracie a totalitarismu, reflektujících krizi humanistické Evropy a vstup Ruska i Evropy do katastrofického období svého vývoje. Evoluce ruské literatury XX.st. jako složitá síť literárních tendencí s epizónami i bifurkacemi, reflektujícími růst duchovní entropie (neoklasicistní tendence), současně anagenezi literárního vývoje a návrat k obnově duchovních hodnot klasické ruské literatury. Ze střetnutí, sváru modernismu, resp. z topiky avantgardního umění a neoklasicismu se v epizonálních vrstvách literárního procesu rodily artefakty neorealismu (Zamjatin), metaforického realismu, resp. magického realismu (M. Bulgakov) svědčící o konvergentním vývoji světového písemnictví XX. st. V centru pozornosti vedle praxe kulturní politiky vyvolávající stagnaci literárního vývoje bude průzkum tří vrstev literárního procesu: díla literárního undergroundu, literární emigrace a nejlepší díla oficiálně publikované literatury. Vazba těcto tří vrstev bude ukázána jako mezičlánčk etologické evoluce, symptom mravního i uměleckého "vzestupu vědomí" society, jako anticipace "křesťanské renesance"(N. Berďajev). Důraz bude kladen na vysledování duchovní a estetické intence ruského literárního procesu. Úvodní přednášky zachytí proces 20. a 30. let XX. století, dvě další obepnou vývoj ruské literatury od let 60. po devadesátá léta XX. století. V nich bude reflektován zejména fenomén přehodnocování kulturních hodnot, související s kardinálními geopolitickými změnami druhé poloviny XX. st. Výklad bude zaměřen na prezentaci jednak tzv. "navrácené literatury" (Platonov, Achmatovová, Gumiljov aj.), jednak literatury "nové vlny"("underground": Petruševskaja, Venědikt Jerofejev, Viktor Jerofejev, V. Sorokin aj.) i literatury ruské emigrace (Nabokov, Solženicyn, Brodskij, Dovlatov aj.) Seminář: Seminář probíhá v návaznosti na přednášku z ruské literatury XX. století. Cíl semináře: seznámit poluchače se základními tvůrčími proudy, osobnostmi a jejich artefakty. Z metodologického hlediska se v semináři obráží nová koncepce interpretace vývoje ruské lit. XX. st. s ohledem na změny v duchovním, kulturním a společenskopolitickém životě Ruska. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována literatuře dějinných přelomů a kataklyzmat, dříve tabuizované, nyní tzv. "navrácené literatuře". Náplň seminářů: vypracovávání a přednášení odborných referátů, koreferátů k nim a následující diskuse k dané problematice. V přípravě referátů kladen důraz na komplwexní analýzu jak myšlenkové, tak i morfologické stránky txtu, na využití primární i sekundární literatury a na schopnost utváření vlastního kritického názoru. Současně probíhá kontrola četby původních ruských textů podle seznamu povinné četby.

• Přednáška: Vývoj ruské literatury od r. 1917 až po závěr XX. stol., epocha osudového dějinného vychýlení, současně epocha překonávání "etického monismu"; stalinské ochlokracie a totalitarismu, reflektujících krizi humanistické Evropy a vstup Ruska i Evropy do katastrofického období svého vývoje. Evoluce ruské literatury XX.st. jako složitá síť literárních tendencí s epizónami i bifurkacemi, reflektujícími růst duchovní entropie (neoklasicistní tendence), současně anagenezi literárního vývoje a návrat k obnově duchovních hodnot klasické ruské literatury. Ze střetnutí, sváru modernismu, resp. z topiky avantgardního umění a neoklasicismu se v epizonálních vrstvách literárního procesu rodily artefakty neorealismu (Zamjatin), metaforického realismu, resp. magického realismu (M. Bulgakov) svědčící o konvergentním vývoji světového písemnictví XX. st. V centru pozornosti vedle praxe kulturní politiky vyvolávající stagnaci literárního vývoje bude průzkum tří vrstev literárního procesu: díla literárního undergroundu, literární emigrace a nejlepší díla oficiálně publikované literatury. Vazba těcto tří vrstev bude ukázána jako mezičlánčk etologické evoluce, symptom mravního i uměleckého "vzestupu vědomí" society, jako anticipace "křesťanské renesance"(N. Berďajev). Důraz bude kladen na vysledování duchovní a estetické intence ruského literárního procesu. Úvodní přednášky zachytí proces 20. a 30. let XX. století, dvě další obepnou vývoj ruské literatury od let 60. po devadesátá léta XX. století. V nich bude reflektován zejména fenomén přehodnocování kulturních hodnot, související s kardinálními geopolitickými změnami druhé poloviny XX. st. Výklad bude zaměřen na prezentaci jednak tzv. "navrácené literatury" (Platonov, Achmatovová, Gumiljov aj.), jednak literatury "nové vlny"("underground": Petruševskaja, Venědikt Jerofejev, Viktor Jerofejev, V. Sorokin aj.) i literatury ruské emigrace (Nabokov, Solženicyn, Brodskij, Dovlatov aj.) Seminář: Seminář probíhá v návaznosti na přednášku z ruské literatury XX. století. Cíl semináře: seznámit poluchače se základními tvůrčími proudy, osobnostmi a jejich artefakty. Z metodologického hlediska se v semináři obráží nová koncepce interpretace vývoje ruské lit. XX. st. s ohledem na změny v duchovním, kulturním a společenskopolitickém životě Ruska. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována literatuře dějinných přelomů a kataklyzmat, dříve tabuizované, nyní tzv. "navrácené literatuře". Náplň seminářů: vypracovávání a přednášení odborných referátů, koreferátů k nim a následující diskuse k dané problematice. V přípravě referátů kladen důraz na komplwexní analýzu jak myšlenkové, tak i morfologické stránky txtu, na využití primární i sekundární literatury a na schopnost utváření vlastního kritického názoru. Současně probíhá kontrola četby původních ruských textů podle seznamu povinné četby.

Course objectives

The course exploring the history of the 20th-century Russian literature is based on a new conception of interpretation of the development of Russian literature, with respect to the intellectual, cultural and socio-political changes that have taken place in Russia. It concentrates on three sections of literature: the best pieces of the officially published literature, Underground Literature and Emigration Literature. The emphasis is laid on the phenomenon of post-modernism and the post-modern poetics as well as the analysis of both the ideological and morphological aspects of the language of fiction.

Syllabus

• 1. The evolution and literary streams or movements of the 20th-century Russian literature that reflects the phenomenon of reassessment of cultural values in connection with the political changes in the late 20th century. The ideological and aesthetic intentions of the Russian literary process in the 20th century.
• 2. The range of styles in the 1920’s and 1930’s Russian poetry - e.g. Majakovskiy, Yesenin, Boris Pasternak and Akhmatova
• 3. The styles and genre modifications of the 1920’s and 1930’s Russian prose: neo-realism – e.g. Zamyatin, analytical realism – e.g. Sholokhov, metaphorical realism – e.g. Bulgakov, Ilf-Petrov and Platonov, and romanticism – e.g. Grin and Prishvin.
• 4. The literature of the period of The Great Patriotic War - the genres, ideological content and the leading figures.
• 5. The fundamental streams or movements in the poetry of the second half of the 20th century – e.g. Yevtushenko, Okudžava, Vysockij, Sosnora, etc.
• 6. The evolution of the 20th-century novel – e.g. Zamyatin, Sholokhov, Bulgakov, Pasternak, Solzhenicyn and Ajtmatov.
• 7. The dynamics and development of small epic forms in the Russian literature of the 20th century – e.g. Sholokhov, Zoshchenko, Platonov, Rasputin, Shukchin and Nagibin.
• 8. The problems of the 20th-century Russian satire, the forms and genres – e.g. Majakovskiy, Erenburg, Zoshchenko, Platonov, Bulgakov and Shukshin.

Course objectives

The course exploring the history of the 20th-century Russian literature is based on a new conception of interpretation of the development of Russian literature, with respect to the intellectual, cultural and socio-political changes that have taken place in Russia. It concentrates on three sections of literature: the best pieces of the officially published literature, Underground Literature and Emigration Literature. The emphasis is laid on the phenomenon of post-modernism and the post-modern poetics as well as the analysis of both the ideological and morphological aspects of the language of fiction.

Syllabus

• 1. The evolution and literary streams or movements of the 20th-century Russian literature that reflects the phenomenon of reassessment of cultural values in connection with the political changes in the late 20th century. The ideological and aesthetic intentions of the Russian literary process in the 20th century.
• 2. The range of styles in the 1920’s and 1930’s Russian poetry - e.g. Majakovskiy, Yesenin, Boris Pasternak and Akhmatova
• 3. The styles and genre modifications of the 1920’s and 1930’s Russian prose: neo-realism – e.g. Zamyatin, analytical realism – e.g. Sholokhov, metaphorical realism – e.g. Bulgakov, Ilf-Petrov and Platonov, and romanticism – e.g. Grin and Prishvin.
• 4. The literature of the period of The Great Patriotic War - the genres, ideological content and the leading figures.
• 5. The fundamental streams or movements in the poetry of the second half of the 20th century – e.g. Yevtushenko, Okudžava, Vysockij, Sosnora, etc.
• 6. The evolution of the 20th-century novel – e.g. Zamyatin, Sholokhov, Bulgakov, Pasternak, Solzhenicyn and Ajtmatov.
• 7. The dynamics and development of small epic forms in the Russian literature of the 20th century – e.g. Sholokhov, Zoshchenko, Platonov, Rasputin, Shukchin and Nagibin.
• 8. The problems of the 20th-century Russian satire, the forms and genres – e.g. Majakovskiy, Erenburg, Zoshchenko, Platonov, Bulgakov and Shukshin.
• 9. The new forms and artistic means in the Russian drama – e.g. Mayakovskiy, Bulgakov, Shvarz, Vampilov, Gorin and Petrushevskaya.
• 10. The epic and psychological stream in the Russian early post-war literature – e.g- Sholokhov, Nyekrasov, Bondarev, Vasiljev and Astafyev.
• 11. The so called 1970’s “country prose”, its ideological content and psychological artistry – e.g. Shukshin, Rasputin, etc.
• 12. Literature of Russian Emigration in the 20th century – the leading figures and artefacts.
• 13. The Apocalyptical motives in the 1980’s Russian literature – e.g. Rasputin, Astafyev, Byelov etc.
