The option course « French as professional language » was created for students in bachelor and master degree (all specialties). B2 level in current French is required.

Course objectives
This option « French as professional language » is implemented by the Masaryk University in partnership with IBM Delivery Center Brno and the French Institute of Prague.
Its main goal is to make students discover a pragmatic French language used in the everyday life in a French environment.
Learning outcomes
• Being able to call or speak in a professional context (job interviews, discussions with colleagues…) • Being able to take part in a debate about a professional topic after reading/watching/listening to a specific document
• Developing skills in redaction of professional emails, professional letters, meeting reviews or texts about a professional topic
• Developing technics for the redaction of CV and covering letter in French
• Getting sociocultural knowledge about the professional environment
• Getting knowledge and developing skills in three specific fields: corporate culture, processes in service environment, customer relation
Syllabus
  • The course lasts during the semester of the academic year (12 sessions, 90 minutes each).
  • Two types of courses are proposed:
  • -language courses specialized in “Professional French”. In total 9 workshops during the semester.
  • -practical courses about the three topics indicated above. In total 3 sessions during the semester.

Teaching methods
French courses:
Students should prepare each session with the handbook Affaires.com (provided by IBM). They should be able to use their knowledge during the workshop through simulations of professional situations.
Other courses:
Each session will start with an active presentation about the three topics indicated above (around 20 minutes of presentation). The topics will be discussed and played (simulation of professional situations) by students.
Assessment methods
French courses :
Two written exams during the semester.
One oral exam at the end of the semester (job interview). This examination has to be successfully passed to be enrolled in the second semester of this option.
