Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to interpret all plays written by Sophocles.
Syllabus
  • 1. Age and theatre 2. Sophocles and Greek tragedy 3. Close reading and interpretation of tragedies as follows: Aias, Antigone, Electra, Philoctetes, Oedipus the King, Oedipus Coloneus, Trachiniae 4. Construction of tragedies 5. Chorus in Sophoclean drama 6. Production of Sophoclean tragedies.
