Course objectives
The seminar continues the course Translator seminar I (specialized translation). It extends skills of a special text analysis, as well as skills of its interpretation and adequate translation from the source language into object language and conversely. Students will learn how to use different methods of translation and transformation, which they got acquainted with in theoretical translatologycal disciplines. Learning of translation procedures is based on texts of scientific and technical problematics. Students will learn various terms and concepts from the field of information technology and data processing. Functional grammar and lexicology: various phenomena connected with the Russian-Czech confrontation, examples of special texts from the different fields of science and technics, characteristics of the style of the professional literature in the view of different linguistic levels and disciplines. Grammatical phenomena found in lexical material of this subject. Students will learn about specific problems of specialized translation. The seminar includes translation into the home language and into the foreign language.
Syllabus
  • Translation of scientific texts from following areas:
  • week 1-2: translation of scientific texts from field of Civil Engineering (fundamental building materials, a building documentation, architectonic constructions)
  • week 3-4: translation of scientific texts from field of Civil Engineering (a public and housing construction, industrial buildings)
  • week 5-6: translation of scientific texts from field of Agriculture (a plant and animal production)
  • week 7-8: translation of scientific texts from field of Food-processing Industry
  • week 9-10: translation of scientific texts from field of Chemical Technologies
  • week 11-12: translation of scientific texts from field of Ecology and Protection of Environment
