Course objectives
The content of the seminar is a practical approach of the mechanism of the process of the granting of aristocratic titles, predicates and coats of arms in the Czech lands in the 18th century. Students become acquainted with the help of an analysis of ennoblement documents with the period method of the functioning of the Bohemian court chancellery and its communication with individuals (applicants for ennoblement) and the land authorities. An analysis of the ennoblement documents allows the exercise of selected aspects of auxiliary historical sciences (diplomatics, heraldry, sigillography) and also the fundaments of the production of selected archival aids (catalogues, inventories).
