Course objectives
The aim of the course is to clarify the basic terms and principles of operation of patrimonial (lordly) administration as an organ of the self-administration of lordly dominions and first-instance (so-called transferred) administration in the field of politics and the exercise of judicial administration in the Czech lands from the early Middle Ages to the year 1848 (or 1850) with minor extensions up to the year 1918.
Learning outcomes
Student after completing the course will be able to:
- understand one of the main areas in the history of administration in Bohemia and Moravia;
- recognize, identify and interpret the key sources for the history of the subject and rural history before 1850 in general;
- describe the differences in the development of seignorial and municipal administration in Bohemia and Moravia;
- write an individual essay on the history of seignorial administration;
- familiarize themselves with the archive collections of the large estates, their central administration and the family archives of their owners;
- describe the fundamental changes in land ownership and be familiar with the public libraries in the Czech lands;
- competently assess the possibilities for a dissertation work either directly on the subject taught or an issue which in some way touches on the subject - understand the wide range of sources and academic literature on seignorial administration in all its forms

  • Documents arising from the activities of patrimony authorities;
