Course objectives
The course presents basic components of transactional analysis: structural analysis of personality with ego-states, functional analysis focused on expressions of ego-states in communication, analysis of communication games and analysis of life scenarios. The practically oriented lessons increase the sensitivity of students for positive or risky elements in interpersonal communication and help them to promote their own self-awareness and communication competence.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able:
- to understand the basic psychological sources of transactional analysis;
- to understand the communication model of transactional analysis;
- to identify the points of contact in the concepts of transactional analysis and assertiveness;
- to understand the basic differences between open and manipulative communication, to choose an effective strategy to handle manipulation;
-to create a therapeutic contract.

  • 1. The communication process in the conception of transactional analysis, basic ego-states
  • 2. The extended conception of ego-states, egograms
  • 3. The individual scenario, drivers
  • 4. The communication transactions
  • 5. The ego-states and the possibility of manipulation
  • 6. Manipulation types and coping in the communication, points of concurrence between the transactional analysis and the assertivity
  • 7. Characteristics of the effective communication, negative components in the process of communication
  • 8. The analysis of life attitudes
  • 9. The contract as a method of individual growth

Assessment methods
The course is concluded with the colloquium. Admission conditions: 80% participation in lessons at least, a written homework according to submission.
