Course objectives
The aim of the seminar is to introduce students to the historical development of the Orthodox Church, the factors that have significantly influenced it and the phenomena of the Orthodox environment.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to -describe the basic features of the development of the Orthodox Church -discuss specific issues such liturgy, monasticism, women in the Church, etc. -explain the reasons for the different development from the Western Church -list important sources for the question of Orthodoxy

  • 1. Origins of Orthodoxy - Christianization - Councils after Trullo 2. Faith - Bible, Church Fathers, terminology, Orthodox liturgical year 3. Historical development, the relationship between the Orthodox Church and the secular authorities 4. Church organizations 5. Relationship to the West - splits and attempts at union 6.
