The course is suitable for second and upper year students who have already taken Introduction to Linguistics, Phonetics and Phonology and Comparative Morphology.

Course objectives
Comparative view on the lexicology of Czech, Croatian, Serbian and Bulgarian. Modern vocabulary, its development, international words, the newest trends in the development of vocabulary. Homonyms, phrasemes and idioms, the most important dictionaries.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will be able to demonstrate the knowledge of South Slavonic lexicology, have a broader and more solid understanding of key aspects of linguistics, have a broader and more solid understanding of key aspects of comparative study of South Slavonic languages, contrast and compare Czech and South Slavonic languages.

Teaching methods
One lecture and one seminar per week, students will prepare one PowerPoint presentation on a selected lexicological topic.

For a more detailed introduction to the current state of the vocabulary of the South Slavic languages ​​and its development during the second half of the 20th century, I recommend the monographs Slovenski jezik, Hrvatski jezik, Srpski jezik, Makedonski jazik and Bălgarski ezik, which are written in the respective languages ​​and which come from the Polish edition of Najnowsze dzieje języków słowiańskich (Opole, 1998 /Serb. 1996, Bulgarian 1997/).
