Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the topic of pedagogical communication. The first part focuses on general theories of interpersonal communication, while the second part concentrates on teacher-student communication in the classroom. The course emphasizes the connection between communication, thinking, and learning, with communication being seen as a key tool that influences student thinking and education. It also considers the relational aspects of communication within the classroom environment. During the course, students analyze real recordings of instructional communication that illustrate various communication phenomena. They work individually and in groups, completing one individual and three group assignments. Each group selects a research question and, based on it, develops a project simulating the observation of a selected communication phenomenon during virtual classroom observations. The course culminates in the preparation of a short research report from this observation and its defense in a final seminar at the end of the semester.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students will be able to: (1) Analyze a lesson and assess the quality of communication between the teacher and students using technical terminology, relevant concepts, and theories; (2) Understand the relationship between communication, thinking, and learning; (3) Describe the structure of typical classroom communication as identified in current research; (4) Explain the theoretical concept of dialogic teaching and research on its implementation and effects; (5) Understand the relational dynamics of the classroom, particularly the power dynamics between teachers and students; (6) Understand how research on pedagogical communication is conducted; (7) Design and evaluate a simple inquiry based on observing video recordings of teaching.

Teaching methods
Lecture, seminar, discussion with students, group work, analysis of pedagogical communication transcripts, literature study.
Assessment methods
To successfully complete the course, the following requirements must be met: 1. Attendance at seminars (maximum of two absences allowed); 2. Completion of 1 individual and 3 group assignments; 3 Submission of the group research report; and 4. Defense of the report during the final class.
