Course objectives
The seminar is primarily aimed at students working on their thesis under the supervision of prof. Krčmová. It uses both linguistic and sociolinguistic approaches; the orientation of the seminar can be modified according to the topics of the theses. There are three main units, which follow the stages of writing a thesis. One unit is devoted to the norms of scholarly texts; shifts in the particular units are possible, depending on the development of the theses. There will be discussions in the seminars, based on the students' papers and on their knowledge of the subjects studied.

  • Languages in the Czech Republic and their relationships. Functional stratification of Czech Language policy and language law. Cultivation of Czech after 1945 and its theoretical background. The main tasks of cultivating Czech and the results of this process. The results of investigating Czech after 1945. Changes to the particular levels of language.
