Course objectives
„I sometimes mix up things because I am afraid to give an oral presentation. I even speak worse." (quote from an Italian student) A well-prepared oral presentation is a solid foudation for follow-up papers. But also, giving a presentation trains speech skills as well as the ability of speaking freely. At the end of the seminar en bloque students should be able to:
- research literature about a scientific topic
- prepare, give and multimedially support an oral presentation
- give and receive feedback
Syllabus
  • The small seminar group en bloque is going to meet at three weekend dates (Friday afternoon and Saturday the whole day). Firstly, there will be a theoretical introduction about how to search for literature and after that, topics for the oral presentations are set. (Students are welcome to choose presentations which have to be given in other seminars but topics can also be chosen freely) Furthermore, theoretical possibilities on how to structure a presentation are worked out and then, they are applied to the actual presentation topic. Also, the use of multimedia technology and outline notes/ handouts is discussed. Finally, the oral presentation according to the outcomes of the seminar is going to be held and a group feedback will be provided.
