- Course objectives
- The seminar is focused mainly on Czech dialects, from both synchronic and diachronic points of view, on their characteristic features and on the methodology of the discipline. Attention is paid also to current tendencies in spoken Czech, with particular regard to the language of the city of Brno. Research work outside the faculty is usually a part of the curriculum as well.

- Teaching methods
- The course consists of seminars during which students learn to carry out an analysis of dialectal texts and to use secondary sources of information, especially the Czech Language Atlas. They also get acquainted with the methodology of dialectal research (compilation of a questionnaire, choice of respondents, controlled interview, dialectal transcription, dialectal dictionary). A scholarly excursion focused on dialectology is also a part of the course.
