Course objectives
The course offers an opportunity for students to test the knowledge gained throughout their studies of Ethnology in practice. The voluntary practical experience course is constructed on collaboration with the non-profit organizations active with ethnic minorities in Brno and thus students can use it as an opportunity to extend their expertise to the realm of minority rights. In addition to gaining the practical experience with working on projects benefiting the minorities and migrants in the city, students can evaluate gained knowledge through in-class group consultations. By taking this course, students can enhance their position on the labor market and develop valuable practical skills.
Syllabus
  • At the beginning, students will be given a chance to choose the NGO they wish to work with. The first group consultation will be held after the first week of voluntary work, providing an opportunity for students to discuss their first impressions and expectations. Subsequent consultations will be held on the regular basis offering students the opportunity to compare and reflect on their experience. Students will be expected to keep a journal detailing their involvement in the projects of the host NGOs. The final part of the course will take place in the form of panel debate open to all students of Ethnology.
