Course objectives
This optional seminar is designed for those interested in using the techniques of creative writing both in school and off-school education or in preparing for educative practice.
The techniques practiced in the seminar will be divided into several groups:
1. exercises aimed at expanding students language abilities
2. exercises aimed at expanding literary abilities
3. exercises aimed at criticism and interpretation of texts
4. playing with texts (onomatopoeic texts, completing texts, textual experiments)
5. texts for private use (diary, methods of unblocking)
6. projects, workshops, text presentation
7. working with school (textbook) teaching texts; making use of them in school and home work.
At the end of the course students should be able:
to create various simple literary texts;
to create various simple non-fiction texts;
to explain the process of their creative writing;
to create a project to evolve text-competence of students. The course runs over a term. The main part is devoted to an interpretation practice of the texts that are a part of literary antologies used at secondary schools. Students defend their approaches to interpretation in controlled discussions. At the end of the course students should be able to: understand better the artificial text and explain its interpretation; create various types of interpretation tasks for students of secondary schools; make deductions based on acquired knowledge in controlled discussion.
Syllabus
  • The participants to the seminar will practice creative techniques according to instructions and will solve pedagogical problems connected with reading and composing texts in different areas, e.g. in teaching Czech as a mother tongue or as a foreign language, teaching literature and composition, creative work in humanities. The seminar will point at pedagogic and educational specifics of creative writing and at the possibilities of their use; the participants will suggest new tasks and their solutions appliable in educational practice. 1. Selected texts of world literature of the Renaissance. 5. Selected texts of world and Czech Baroque literature. 6. Selected texts of world literature of classicism, the enligtenment and preromantism. 7. Selected texts of literature of the Czech Revival Period. 8. Selected texts of world and Czech romantism. 9. Selected texts of literature written by Máj generation, Ruch and Lumír generations 10. Selected texts of Czech realism. 11. Selected texts of world and Czech literature of the end of 19th century. 12. Selected texts of world and Czech drama between two world wars. 13. Selected texts of world and Czech prose between two world wars. 14. Selected texts of world and Czech poetry between two world wars. 15. Selected texts of world and Czech drama after 1945. 16. Selected texts of world and Czech prose after 1945. 17. Selected texts of world and Czech poetry after 1945. 18. Selected texts of world and Czech contemporary literature, orientation at the book market. 19. Selected texts of regional literature. 20.
