Course objectives
REVISED for Fall 2015: A series of lectures/presentations on important works of American fiction. Topics, reading assignments and presenters are as follows:

October 4 -- Course introduction (Jeff Smith)
October 19 -- Henry James, The Spoils of Poynton (Michael Kaylor)
November 2 -- Vladimir Nabokov, Lolita (Stephen Hardy)
November 16 -- E.L. Doctorow, Ragtime (Tomáš Pospíšil)
November 30 -- Thomas Pynchon, The Crying of Lot 49 (Jeff Ssmith)
December 14 -- Jeffrey Eugenides, The Marriage Plot (Tom Kačer)

The assignment for each date is to read the novel indicated.
Assessment methods
Assessment will be based on an essay of approximately 10 double-spaced pages drawing relevant and insightful comparison(s) between any two of the works presented during the term.
