- Course objectives
- REVISED for Fall 2015: A series of lectures/presentations on important works of American fiction. Topics, reading assignments and presenters are as follows:
October 4 -- Course introduction (Jeff Smith)
October 19 -- Henry James, The Spoils of Poynton (Michael Kaylor)
November 2 -- Vladimir Nabokov, Lolita (Stephen Hardy)
November 16 -- E.L. Doctorow, Ragtime (Tomáš Pospíšil)
November 30 -- Thomas Pynchon, The Crying of Lot 49 (Jeff Ssmith)
December 14 -- Jeffrey Eugenides, The Marriage Plot (Tom Kačer)
The assignment for each date is to read the novel indicated. - Assessment methods
- Assessment will be based on an essay of approximately 10 double-spaced pages drawing relevant and insightful comparison(s) between any two of the works presented during the term.
