Course objectives
The main content of the course are selected themes of the ancient Greek literature, that have been explored recently and could not be explained in the courses History of the Classical Literature I-IV due to the shortage of time.
At the end of this course, students should have a thorough knowledge of the selected topics of the ancient Greek literature.

  • 8.-9. Alcestis of Euripides
  • 10.-11. Ion of Euripides
  • 12.-13. Euripides` influence on the New Comedy and the ancient novel

Teaching methods
Planned learning activities and teaching methods consist in a set of lectures 1½ hours per week and preparatory homework (reading discussed texts).
Assessment methods
Credits are awarded for an essay on the the selected topic related to ancient greek literature. Specific topics of the essays will be agreed upon at the last lecture session. Essay should fulfill the basic standards of the scholarly work (use of relevant secondary literature, citations, etc.), length of the essay: 5 pages of 1 800 characters.
