Course objectives
The lecture deals with the development of Standard Czech not as of an abstract system, but deals with characteristic features of Czech texts from different periods of its development - from the 9th century (in Moravia and later in Bohemia) till the beginning of the 3rd millennium. The aim of the course: the students should gain a complex view of the Czech language including its graphics.
Learning outcomes
Having participated in the course, students will be able:
to identify and summarize the main features relating to the individual stages of development of Czech;
to write a paper on a selected topic relating to the development of Czech;
to get orientation in relevant scholarly sources;
to understand links between the development of Czech and the development of society using Czech

Teaching methods
Lecture. The lectures have the form of the teacher’s explanations, accompanied by detailed handouts, if advanced topics are dealt with.
Assessment methods
The exam proves the students’ capability to understand various aspects of the standard language development, i.e. to be aware of the continuity and mutual relationships of its characteristic features.
