Course objectives
The aim of the course is describe and define the civilization, religious, cultural, political, economic, social and legal aspects of the development of Russia and its impact on current Russian and global events. The instruction leads to an understanding of the facts and thoughts of Russia of the 18th century as an example of historical context, the application of which on the analysis of the history-making processes from the 18th century to today is the basis of historical consciousness. An organic part of the study is the evaluation of the source and literary bases. During the instruction, the general and special features of the Russian cultural history of the 18th century will be defined and the value scale of the Russian Tsarist autocracy will be applied starting with the reign of Czar-Emperor Peter I and ending with the time of Czar Paul I.
Learning outcomes
After the successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- explain the transformations of the Russian empire in the 18th century in the context of general history and understand the contemporary history-making processes in Russia,
- identify the relations of Russia to the surrounding countries, the internal functioning of the Russian Empire and the impact on everydayness then and now.
