- Course objectives
- The lectures are an introduction to historical topography as an auxiliary historical discipline for historical research. The main objectives can be summarized as follows: to introduce students to the issue of localization in historical sources; to recognize old maps as historical sources; to reconstruct borders from the past; to present the territorial development of the Czech state; to familiarize students with the methods for reconstructing a settlement.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- describe the development of historical topography
- identify existing locations with their historical names
- analyse old maps and acquire topographical information from them
- describe the territorial development of the Czech state
- name its historical components - Syllabus
- Site names in sources;
- the issue of identifying sites today from historical sources;
- old maps as historical sources;
- reconstruction of borders in the past;
- territorial development of the Czech state;
- methods for detecting the population of a settlement;
- possibilities for determining historical routes.
