Course objectives
The aim of this course is to familiarize students with different categories of analysis of utterance (organised in a text and being a manifestation of a discourse), enabling them to situate the utterance in a broader extra-textual context and find adequate solutions in translating.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, a student will be able to analyse a text to be translated (and being translated) through these categories:

- speech acts
- language functions
- function and communicative purpose of a text
- context and cotext
- deixis
- presuppositions
- constatives and performatives
- cooperative principle and politeness maxims
- narration analysis (narrator, focalisation, character, time, space)

Based on such analysis, he or she will be able to choose adequate translation solutions.
