- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to introduce students to the fundamental structures of the plant cell, explain their origin, organization, and functions. Emphasis is placed on understanding key mechanisms of plant cell function at the molecular biology level.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: - understand the structure and organization of the plant cell, - explain the functions of individual cellular components and their interrelationships, - describe the origin, development, and differentiation of cellular structures and the entire cell, - explain basic methods used in plant cell research, with an emphasis on molecular biology approaches.

- Molecular basis of plant cell structure, Structural and functional compartmentalization in plant cells, Cell nucleus and nucleolus, Plasma membrane, Chloroplasts and other plastids, Mitochondria and peroxisomes, Endomembrane system and transport, Cell wall, Plant cytoskeleton, Cell signalling, Ontogenesis and differentiation of plant cells, Methods for studying plant cells with a focus on molecular biology approaches.

- The assessment consists of two parts. Writing an essay on a selected topic related to the course content (30 % of the final grade). An oral examination based on the topics covered in the course (70 % of the final grade).
