Cíle předmětu
In this course, the students will learn how to analyze spectroscopic and photometric data of the evolved stars including exoplanets. The students will be taught how to prepare and carry out an observing run, select targets from large data archives using modern data-mining techniques, and will be introduced to state-of-the-art spectroscopic and photometric analysis methods for single and binary stars. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to perform spectroscopic and photometric observations on the Perek telescope in Ondřejov, Czech Republic, and how to perform remote observations on the E152 telescope at La Silla Observatory in Chile. Students will be actively involved in ongoing research projects in stellar astrophysics.
Osnova
  • The course lasts 10 days and consists of 2 blocks of 2 hours each for lectures and workshops in the afternoon, followed by observing runs during the night. Students will work on preparing observations (target selection, exposure time calculations, visibility plots, etc.), observing, data reduction, and data analysis related to their chosen project. The first week of the workshop will be dedicated to the preparation and collection of observational data, while the second week will focus on data reduction and analysis. Special lectures will be given to support the students throughout the workshop.
Výukové metody
Students will be divided into 3-4 groups, depending on the number of participants and their scientific interests. Each group will work on one of the science projects under the supervision of the teachers. At the end of the workshop, each group will prepare and present a presentation. The students should describe the data acquisition, reduction, and analysis based on the knowledge and skills they acquired. Additionally, the presentations should also include a brief introduction outlining the main astrophysical concepts involved and a results/conclusions section.
