Syllabus
  • Wave mechanics: Schrodinger's equation, wave function, quantum numbers, atom orbitals. Building principle: Hund's rule, periodical system, groups and lines. Chemical bonding: Hybridization, molecular orbitals, covalent and ionic bonds, electronegativity, polarization of bond, partial charges. Dative bond: Complexes, hybridization of central atom, ligands, coordination numbers, molecular orbitals, stability constants, geochemical significance.I., II., and III. groups: geochemically important elements, behavior, reactions, minerals, analyses of formulas. IV. group: silicon, silicates, aluminosilicates, minerals, analyses of formulas. V., VI., and VIII. groups: geochemically important elements, behavior, reactions, minerals, analyses of formulas. Transition elements (d-elements): Three lines of d-elements, geochemical significance, behavior, reactions, minerals. Inner-transition elements (f-elements): Lanthanoids, actinoids, character, behaviour, geochemical significance.
