- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to acquire basic knowledge about natural building materials used in buildings and publicly accessible areas in the wider center of the city of Brno.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- recognize the basic features of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks;
- identify the main rocks that occur in the Brno region;
- identify the main building rocks used in the center of Brno;
- describe a brief history and context of some architectural monuments in the center of Brno. - Syllabus
- Trip 1 - rocks that are found in the vicinity of Brno;
- Trip 2 - features of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks;
- Trip 3 - rocks in the city center of Brno.
- Instructions for the excursion are provided in the study materials of the subject as an encrypted ZIP file. Students are informed at the beginning of the semester about the method of passing the course.
- Teaching methods
- The course is taught by distance learning, in the form of geocaching excursion (combination of multicache and earthcache). Students take walks in Brno individually and in their own time schedule, during which they complete tasks that are required for obtaining credit.

- Course requirements are fulfilled by submitting the protocols and photographs requested in the course materials for individual trips.
