Basic linear algebra. Basic calculus.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
At the end of the first part of the course students should get notion about methods used in the four "classical" parts of theoretical physics: mechanics and theory of relativity, electrodynamics and optics.
Syllabus
  • Mechanics and relativity theory
  • 1. Basics, contributions of Galileo, Newton, Lagrange, Hamilton, Einstein.
  • 2. Conservation laws, central field motion.
  • 3. Harmonic oscillator, Kepler problem and Rutherford cross section.
  • 4. Dynamics of rigid body, deformable bodies and fluids.
  • Electrodynamics and optics
  • 5. Maxwell equations, Gauss, Faraday and Biot - Savart laws.
  • 6. Coulomb law, field of the moving charge.
  • 7. Maxwell equations and wave equation, selected solutions of the wave equation, approximation of the geometrical optics.
