Prerequisites
NOW( C3050 Organic Chemistry II )||NOW( C3022 Organic Chemistry II/1 )
Knowledge of general and inorganic chemistry.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The aim of the seminar is to exercise on practical examples the topics introduced in the lecture Organic Chemistry II. The main content is the analysis of stucture and reactivity of different functional groups and the influence on their reactivity from the opposite skeleton. The students will be acquainted with synthetic procedures. The goal is to learn how to plan synthesis of much more complicated organic compounds with more functional groups.
Learning outcomes
After participating in the course Organic chemistry II. – seminar students will be able to understand basic concepts of organic chemistry and use this knowledge in practice – dealing with solving of complex problems regarding the reactivity of chemical compounds and planning of organic synthesis ;
On the grounds of the expert knowledge of model reaction mechanism students will be able to propose mechanism of similiar yet still for them unknown reactions ;
They will be able to give a precise explanation of different reactivity of organic molecules, estimate main product of the reaction and account for the formation of side reaction products, alternatively assess the impact of reaction condition modifications like temperature, pressure, concentration, the change of dissolving agent and suchlike ;
They will gain awareness of prevalent reaction processes (also the modern ones) leading to synthesis of different functional groups ;
Students will master the planning of multistep synthesis of complex organic molecules containing more functional groups, with regard to stereochemistry of the product.
