Basic courses of Hydrogeology and Hydrology are recommended.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students with detailed information on the current legislative standards within the EU legislation, current versions of Czech laws, Czech government regulations related to water management, and methodological guidelines of the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Agricuture and Ministry of Haelth related to water management. As part of the graduate curriculum, this is a course preparing graduates for immediate involvement in practice, which requires, in addition to professional knowledge, knowledge of current legislation and the ability to use it in the evaluation of typical water management tasks.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
- orient themselves in the legislation related to water management;
- work with government databases to obtain up-to-date versions of legislation and standards;
- apply appropriate standards and legislation to assess a specific water management problem;
- compare data with applicable standards and legislation relevant to the specific water management problem being addressed;
- prepare a report with appropriate verbal comparison of data with applicable standards and legislation.

  • Terminology, levels of legislation and standards.
  • EU legislation, EU legislation and its validity, examples of application of EU legislation.
  • Laws of the Government of the Czech Republic, orientation in laws related to water management.
  • Limits in the laws of the Government of the Czech Republic and examples of their application.
  • Government regulations related to water management, limits resulting from them, examples of their application.
  • Methodological guidelines of the Ministry of Environment related to water management, limits resulting from them, examples of their application.
  • Methodological instructions of the Ministry of the Environment related to water management, their limits, examples of their application.
  • Methodological guidelines of the MoH related to aquaculture, resulting limits, examples of their use.

Teaching methods
Theoretical lectures, practical exercises, examples of practical problems solved in groups, independent projects.
Assessment methods
Final evaluation in the form of a defence of the independent project (written report), which evaluates the specific problem from the point of view of current legislative regulations in water management. Oral defence of the project.
Náhradní absolvování
In case of a trip abroad, the course can be taken in an alternative form. After returning from the trip and self-study master classes, it is possible to submit an independent project and defend it.
