Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
distinguish the various types of Natural History teaching materials according to the Altmann classification
create a selected aid for teaching of Natural History
propose the composition of natural resources in the corner of the wildlife with a view to their use in the teaching of Natural History
select information sources presenting expert knowledge of biology and geology
collect expertise on the selected region
correctly formulate a learning task
assemble a worksheet for use in a particular lesson of Natural History
construct and evaluate the didactic test
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
- distinguish and use different types of teaching aids;
- manage a collection of natural resources;
- design a corner of living nature;
- apply the regional principle in teaching;
- assess the professional relevance of books and texts for teaching;
- design and use a diagnostic tool to determine the level of pupil knowledge and skills.

  • 1)Activating methods in the teaching of Natural History
  • 2) Teaching resources: definition of the term, different approaches to the classification of teaching resources
  • 3) Living nature in the natural environment and their use in the teaching of Natural History
  • 4) Living nature in an artificial environment and their use in the teaching of Natural History
  • 5) Prepared and preserved nature and their use in the teaching of Natural History
  • 6) Paleontological material and inanimate nature in the teaching of Natural History
  • 7) Nature collections and exhibitions in Natural History lessons, models and two-dimensional aids in the teaching of Natural History
  • 8) Information sources in the teaching of Natural History
  • 9) Cabinet of Natural History Teacher and Regional Cabinet
  • 10) Realization and management of Natural History teaching
  • 11) Diagnosis in teaching of Nature History: repetition and testing
  • 12) Diagnosis in the teaching of Natural History: didactic test and its construction
  • Syllabus of exercises:
  • 1) Demonstration of the use of activating methods in the teaching of Natural History
  • 2)The use of material resources in the teaching of Natural History: introduction of various means of teaching Natural History
  • 3) Observation of organisms in a natural environment (excursion to the park)
  • 4) Live nature corners in the teaching of Natural History: selection of suitable organisms, care for them, didactic use
  • 5) Creation and care of a collection of natural resources: the principles of natural resources collection, their archiving and preparation, care of the collection
  • 6) The production of three-dimensional teaching aids by self-help
  • 7) Manufacturing two-dimensional teaching aids by self-help
  • 8) Building the Regional Cabinet of a Natural History Teacher
  • 9) Teaching tasks and their use in the teaching of Natural History
  • 10) Principles of correct formulation of learning tasks, design of worksheet

Assessment methods: creating of materials to the "Portfolio of Beginning Teacher of Natural History", written test, oral exam, Fulifilling requirements: - active participation in exercises (1 absence is tolerated) - submition of all materials in the "Portfolio of Beginning Teacher of Natural History" - Exam: 1) Written test (70 % required), 2) A discussion of the materials from the "Portfolio of Beginning Teacher of Natural History"
