In recent years, there has been a growing interest in effective and safe cosmetic products, with consumer requirements becoming increasingly demanding, both in traditional and natural or phyto-cosmetics. The aim of implementing a professionally oriented follow-up Master's degree program focused on cosmetology and cosmetic products is to prepare graduates with advanced knowledge and skills in the areas of effects, formulation, preparation/manufacturing, innovative approaches, evaluation, quality assurance, regulatory, marketing, environmental, and ethical aspects of cosmetic products. The interdisciplinary concept of the program will prepare the graduate for qualified work in various areas related to cosmetic products and strengthen the social responsibility of the field of cosmetology in relation to the population's health and environmental protection.

  • Objectives

The aim of implementing a professionally oriented follow-up Master's degree program focused on cosmetology and cosmetic products is to prepare graduates with advanced knowledge and skills in the areas of effects, formulation, preparation/manufacturing, innovative approaches, evaluation, quality assurance, regulatory, marketing, environmental, and ethical aspects of cosmetic products. The interdisciplinary concept of the program will prepare the graduate for qualified work in various areas related to cosmetic products and strengthen the social responsibility of the field of cosmetology in relation to the population's health and environmental protection.

  • Learning Outcomes

    Upon successful completion of the programme, the graduate is able to:

    • apply knowledge of the basics of dermato-venerology and dermato-pharmacology in the use of cosmetic products in various skin conditions, assessing their benefits and risks
    • apply advanced knowledge of the principles of formulation of different groups of cosmetic products (including specific types) in formulating products and providing advice
    • apply knowledge of technological processes and innovative technologies in the formulation and manufacture of different types of cosmetic products
    • apply knowledge of technologies for the extraction of botanicals and advanced technologies for the extraction of innovative active complexes in the formulation of cosmetic products
    • apply advanced knowledge of the chemistry and properties of substances and materials in the formulation of cosmetic products
    • apply knowledge of selected quality control methods and instrumental analytical methods in the evaluation and quality assurance of cosmetic products
    • apply knowledge of the regulation and safety surveillance of cosmetic products throughout the product life cycle
    • apply knowledge of marketing, management, and professional ethics in the handling of cosmetic products
  • Occupational Profiles of Graduates

    The graduate of the programme is prepared for work in the field of research, development, and innovations of cosmetic products; in manufacturing of cosmetic products in their formulation and production; and as a specialist in a quality assessment laboratory; in companies engaged in the marketing of cosmetic substances and products as a sales representative, client worker, and consultant; in the laboratories of certifying and regulatory authorities as a specialist/inspector; in testing and certifying laboratories during the preparation and evaluation of documentation for placing cosmetic products on the market; as a lecturer in educational institutions active in the field of educating the lay and professional public; as a professional providing advanced dermocosmetic counselling in marketing and application of cosmetic products (pharmacies, aesthetic dermatology clinics, beauty salons, wellness centers, etc.).

  • Practical Training

    The Master's degree programme includes obligatory supervised professional practice at specialized workplaces for a total duration of 6 weeks in the 4th semester of study. The practical training can be completed at max. 2 different workplaces, at 1 workplace in min. duration of 2 weeks. Internships can be completed both in the Czech Republic and abroad. The aim of the practical training is to enable students to apply basic theoretical knowledge and acquire practical skills related to routine activities at specialized workplaces dealing with research and development, production, control, distribution, regulation, marketing, and application of cosmetic products.

  • Goals of Theses

    In the degree programme are included subjects focused on the preparation of a diploma thesis. The diploma thesis can have the character of original experimental research or complex processing of a selected topic based on published texts and accessible data. Students should demonstrate the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to solve practical problems, work critically with professional texts, process and statistically evaluate the data obtained, and find and formulate relevant answers to the given questions. Diploma Thesis Defence is one of the parts of the Final State Examinations. The diploma thesis can be worked out and submitted in the Czech language as well as in the Slovak and English languages.

  • Access to Further Studies

    A graduate of the follow-up Master's degree programme can, after fulfilling the conditions of the admission procedure, continue his studies in doctoral degree programmes, especially in the fields of pharmaceutical, natural science, and chemical-technological orientation.
