Degree programme objectives
The aim of the programme is to prepare top economic research experts focused on specific subfields of economic sciences that are developed at Faculty of Economics and Administration MU. Graduates will be prepared primarily for further scientific careers in academic institutions and for possible employment as analysts and senior researchers in multinational corporations, international institutions, in analytical departments of state and public administration, in financial institutions and other organisations with an economic research background. Graduates are trained and actively encouraged to pursue a research career as postdocs on the international job market. The Faculty of Economics and Administration covers the following research topics in which PhD students are primarily trained:

After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:
- independently conduct research in the field of economics, finance or management
- have knowledge of current topics in economic, finance and management research
- formulate new research topics and questions in the field of interest in economics, finance and management
- have knowledge of modern econometric methods and conduct research using state-of-the-art methods in economic research
- have experience with the process of scientific research including ethical standards for scientific research and publishing in social sciences
- understand the level of internationally accepted publishing standards in economic sciences
- write a scientific manuscript in English
- submit a qualified research grant application
- present research findings to the scientific and wider professional community and to students
- engage students in research topics through professional guidance in teaching and in writing scholarly and scientific papers
- Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Successful graduates will be qualified to pursue: (i) further academic careers at universities in postdoctoral tenure-track positions, (ii) careers as independent researchers in national and multinational research organisations such as university research institutes, academies of science, analytical departments of ministries, central banks, international trade and economic institutions (OECD, WTO, IMF, World Bank), (iii) careers in the commercial sphere as data analysts focused on economic sciences, such as research agencies, multinational corporations, financial institutions or consultancies.
- Practical Training
Practical Training is not a compulsory part of the study programme.
- Goals of Theses
The dissertation of a successful graduate of the graduate program must meet the requirements of the ECON MUNI Directive No. 2/2020 Studies in Doctoral Degree Programmes and their Organization and is expected to meet a high academic standard in the field. In accordance with the FEA MU Directive No. 2/2020 guideline, the dissertation is a volume of three separate scientific papers with commentary and description of one's own research contribution, or a monothematic work in the field. In the dissertation, the successful graduate demonstrates the ability to conduct independent research, the ability to work with literature, the ability to formulate a scientific problem and propose a solution using appropriate methodology, and to implement the solution in the form of theoretical or empirical research using internationally accepted methods and procedures in the field. The thesis is evaluated by two external reviewers and at least one of them is affiliated with foreign institution (with the exception of Slovakia).
