Anotace
V originále
High-grade gliomas are highly malignant primary brain tumors of supportive glial cells origin. Despite optimal course of treatment, including maximal surgical resection followed by chemo- and/orradiotherapy, the prognosis still remains poor. The main reason is the commonly occurring chemo-radioresistance that is manifested by early progression after or even during oncology treatment. Accurate prediction of therapy response and adjuvant therapeutic approach enabling an overcoming of resistance consist the main aims of glioma translationalresearch. The important role in therapeutic resistance play cancer stem cells (CSCs) and thus, signaling pathways related to maintaining stem-like phenotype. Glioma stem cells (GSCs) are associated with time to progression and overall survival of glioma patients. In recent years, it was shown that biological features of GSCs could be effectively regulated by microRNAs (miRNAs), short endogenou RNA molecules that post-transcriptionally regulate gene expression. MiRNAs have been described to be deregulated in gliomas and associated with therapy response and survival of glioma patients. Introduction to miRNAs involvement to GSCs biology, and our recent data from this field will be presented.
