The authors of the New Testament texts use colloquial terms when describing diseases and physiological states, and their understanding of diseases is quite different from modern medical interpretations. Such are the contexts where verb "xerainw" and adjective "xeros" are used in the New Testament. As shown in the paper, usages of beforementioned verb/adjective are figurative in all investigated contexts, and primary meaning of "dryness" is suppressed. This is however not mirrored in commonly used Bible version in Slovak. Untypical collocations can be seen as an impediment of understanding, especially in free-renditions of the Bible text.
