Abstract
The paper deals with the question of what a possible and potentially possible syllable is in Czech. Possible syllables are such phoneme combinations that are directly attested, and potentially possible syllables are unattested phoneme combinations that are not in contraction with any structural rule valid for directly attested combinations. The paper describes the structure of attested syllables on the so-called distributional unit which can be used for calculating potentially possible syllables. The procedure and its output are presented with examples.
