V originále
Humans and ecosystems are continuously exposed to highly variable mixtures of chemicals (including pesticides) in all relevant matrices including water, air, soil, food but this is not properly addressed by current risk assessment approaches. The present paper illustrates the importance of chemical mixture assessment using the examples from both literature and own research studies demonstrating serious underestimation of risks if pesticides are considered on individual basis and not as mixtures. The paper reviews traditional as well as emerging approaches towards the RA of mixtures covering both the mechanistic tools (Mode of Action, MoA, or Adverse Outcome Pathways, AOP, concept) as well as complex models such as pesticide mixture ecotoxicity assessment using the Species Sensitivity Distributions, SSD.
