Anotace

Op 28 februari 1966 vond onder auspiciën van Simon Vinkenoog en acteur Olivier Boelen het legendarische evenement Poëzie in Carré plaats. Naast 23 Nederlandse dichters, waren ook twee Vlamingen vertegenwoordigd: Hugues C. Pernath en Gust Gils. Voor Gils was de avond in Carré, getuige diens verslag in Muze-n-expres, een openbaring en aanleiding om een pleidooi te houden voor "poëzie als geluidsfenomeen". Uiteraard greep ook organisator Vinkenoog het evenement aan om het belang van poëzie als gesproken woord te onderstrepen, zij het vanuit een geheel andere (poëticale) invalshoek dan Gils. Vinkenoog en Gils, die reeds voor 1966 experimenteerden met poëzie als geluidsfenomeen, zouden beiden uitgroeien tot voorlopers van de zg. performace poetry. Zoals blijkt uit een vergelijking van hun expliciete poëticale standpunten ten tijde van Poëzie in Carré, is hun belangstelling voor poëzie als orale kunstvorm echter niet op één leest geschoeid.

On the 28th of February, 1966, the legendary event Poëzie in Carré (Poetry in Carré) was held under the auspices of writer Simon Vinkenoog and actor Olivier Boelen. Besides 23 Dutch poets, two Flemish authors were represented, i.e. Hugues C. Pernath and Gust Gils. The latter called the evening in a report in Muze-n-expres a revelation; it induced him to make a plea for "poetry as a phenomenon of sound". Also co-organizer Vinkenoog referred to the event to underline the importance of the spoken word, be it from a different (poetical) angle than Gils. Vinkenoog and Gils, who were experimenting with "poetry as a phenomenon of sound", would later be designated as pioneers of performance poetry. A comparison of their explicit poetical statements in the late sixties shows, however, that there common interest has a different (poetical) foundation.
