N2 - Although the political objectives of hard Eurosceptic parties are particularly related to the European integration, a presence in the European Parliament (EP) is not their final or solitary goal. Just in the contrary, to fulfil their main objective – usually the disbanding of the European Union (EU) – they need relevance at the national level as well. This condition is however hardly to achieve as it is difficult to get established on the national scene: success in elections to the EP frequently comes sooner and more easily. Thus, being represented at the EU level can create an opportunity to use this level of representation as a springboard to the national party scene. This article - based on the theory of roles – tries to reveal if (and how) such process may happen. It uses the case of the Free Citizens’ Party (in Czech, Strana Svobodných Občanů, Svobodní, SSO), a Czech party, to analyse what strategies a hard Eurosceptic party represented in the EP but not at the national level employees to lever the EP as a springboard to national relevance.
