Zuzana Fonioková's study Kazuo Ishiguro and Max Frisch: Bending Facts in Unreliable and Unnatural Narration deals with unreliable narration and its borders with other types of subjective homodiegetic narration. The book traces the theoretical discussions surrounding narrative unreliability and examines the relationship of unreliable narration to antimimetic techniques of portraying self-deception. Standing on the border between classical and postclassical narratology, the study analyses Kazuo Ishiguro’s and Max Frisch's innovative narrative strategies, offering new perspectives on their oeuvre and on unreliable narration as a narratological concept. A comparison of the methods Ishiguro and Frisch employ to explore the psychology of their narrators reveals a fascinating parallel in their development as novelists.

Monografie Kazuo Ishiguro and Max Frisch: Bending Facts in Unreliable and Unnatural Narration Zuzany Foniokové se zabývá zejména vypravěčskou nespolehlivostí a jejími hranicemi s jinými typy subjektivního vyprávění v první osobě. Kniha mapuje teoretické debaty k nespolehlivému vyprávění a zkoumá vztah tohoto jevu k antimimetickým postupům vyobrazení vypravěčova sebeklamu. Studie, jež se pohybuje na hranici mezi klasickou a poklasickou naratologií, využívá mimo jiné poznatky teorie fikčních světů, „nepřirozené“ naratologie a kognitivní psychologie. Teoretické koncepty pak aplikuje na inovativní vyprávěcí strategie ve vybraných dílech současného britského prozaika Kazua Ishigura a švýcarského autora 20. století Maxe Frische. Analýzy těchto románů nabízejí nový náhled nejen na Ishigurovo a Frischovo dílo, ale i na nespolehlivé vyprávění jakožto naratologický koncept. Srovnání metod, jimiž tito dva autoři zachycují psychologii svých vypravěčů, pak vynáší na světlo fascinující paralely v jejich romanopiseckém vývoji.
