Anotace
NPWT represents a well-established method in the treatment of chronic and acute wounds. The benefits of NPWT are clearly demonstrable. Nevertheless, the question if NPWT should also be used on infected wounds remains open In the period between January 2010 and December 2013 we observed 70 patients with infected defect who were treated using NPWT (abdomen, chest, trauma..) The cultivated material from the wound was collected prior application of NPWT. The control collection was taken after commence of treatment and after its termination. All collections were carried out by means of collection swabs. The patients’ average age was 69 years, ranging between 19 and 83. The wound sizes varied from 8cmx5cm to 38cmx35cm. Hospitalization days - median ( 5- 95 percentile) – 39 (10-113) Treatment with NPWT averaged 14 days, and dressings were changed every 4.5 days. All wounds were infected, no mortalities occurred and all the wounds healed. The number of negative findings decreased by 15, which is 21.4%.Thus, we can state that improvement was achieved with more than one fifth of cases.NPWT can be used in wide range of cases and currently represents a favourite treatment method both for the patients and the medial professionals. However, positive result of cultivation finding does not neccessarily mean its clinical manifestation
