Abstract

The 11th and 12th centuries represent a key historical period in the history of the Byzantine Empire. This fact is reflected also in a vast amount of historical sources preserved from this era which provide us not only with testimony about development in Byzantium itself; they also are a very important source of our knowledge about history of nomadic peoples, in our case the Pechenegs. This chapter includes overview of most important byzantine sources from the 11th and 12th centuries that give us the most relevant information about this nomadic nation.

Abstract (in Czech)

Obdobie 11. a 12. storočia predstavuje kľúčové obdobie v dejinách Byzantskej ríše. Vďaka tomuto faktu sa z tohto obdobia zachovalo množstvo bohatých písomných prameňov, ktoré podávajú svedectvo nielen o vývoji v Byzantskej ríši, ale aj v susediacich oblastiach. Byzantské pramene sú tak významným zdrojom aj pre dejiny nomádskych národov, v našom prípade Pečenehov. Príspevok obsahuje prehľad najvýznamnejších prameňov 11. a 12. storočia, ktoré obsahujú najrelevantnejšie údaje o tomto nomádskom národe.
