Mountain part of this area belongs to the Carpathian Mountains, where was wood the main building material. In the Carpathian foothills and western uplands was in the early 19th century wooden architecture also very important, but began to be replaced by clay in various forms and was influenced by Moravian-Pannonian house area and modernizations. In the present we find only rare residues of the older wooden architecture in the uplands, in contrast to the mountain environment with relatively preserved enough of in-situ wooden architecture and continuity of the tradition is still alive. Some wooden houses and farm buildings in mountain villages are still used. On the other hand in mountain areas remaining traditional wooden building quickly extinguished, is fundamentally adapted and modernized or replaced by non-traditional forms. Paper presents at the example of several locations the current condition of wooden vernacular architecture in the area. ER -
