N2 - The cohesion policy and European funds used as a tool for its implementation has a significant impact on the economy of Czech Republic. Operational programs at regional level in the program period 2007- 2013 allowed supporting various projects in the 7 regions (so called Cohesion Regions NUTSII). Many of them were aimed at the development and reconstruction of sport facilities. Therefore the objective of this study is to identify the extent of this targeted funding in the Czech regions and to explore of how it is viewed by local and sport authorities in the regions with regard to the impact on participation in sport and elite sport as well. Thus the study makes a contribution to the knowledge regarding the understanding of the EU funding as one of the possible facilitator for sport development purposes
