Anotace

The title is composed of several articles focused on more than a sixty carved plaques preserved in the impressive treasure of the Salerno Cathedral. These ivories which are of the exceptional quality and complex decorative program, serve us as a great example of an intertwined features from the Islamic, Byzantine, Coptic and the western Christian art. The authors had taken an attempt to clarify many unsolved questions and investigate the objects either individually (technique, datation, provenience, iconography), as well as in a wider context of the medieval art considering the function, patronage and reception by the audience in the Cathedral of Salerno. Kessler participated with his study „Veteris Testamenti typos evangelicae veritati profecisse monstravimus – Realia and Spiritualia on the Salerno Ivories“.
