Abstract

Karel Čapek puó essere considerato uno degli autori cechi piú significativi e le sue opere sono vive acora oggi, se non per le sue idee, almeno per la lingua utilizzata che si puó definire, nel pieno significato del termine, ‘moderna’. Čapek appartiene anche tra gli autori cechi piú spesso tradotti insieme con Bohumil Hrabal, Milan Kundera e Václav Havel, e come ricorda Dario Massimi ‘lo scrittore piú longevo in traduzione italiana’. Nel corso di quasi cento anni sono state tradotte diciannove delle sue opere, alcune addirittura piú volte: un successo che soltanto pochi autori stranieri erano capaci di ottenere. Grazie allo sforzo dei slavisti italiani l’autore ceco é stato introdotto in Italia nella seconda metá degli anni ’20 del XX secolo. Comunque giá nel corso degli anni ’30, continuando per i due decenni successivi, si puó osservare una curiosa mancanza delle traduzioni italiane dei suoi romanzi piú significativi; in questo periodo sono tradotti soltanto alcuni racconti e due opere per bambini. Soltanto a partire dagli anni ’60, questa volta peró in una serie ininterrotta che dura fino al presente, appaiono le prime pubblicazioni dei suoi romanzi ed altre opere complete.

Abstract (in English)

Karel Čapek can be considered one of the most important Czech authors and his works are alive even today, if not for his ideas, it's for the language that can be rightfully considered "modern". Čapek belongs to the group of most often translated Czech authors together with Bohumil Hrabal, Milan Kundera and Václav Havel, and as Dario Massimi noticed, he's ‘the most long-lived author in italian translation’. During almost a century nineteen of his literary works have been translated, some of them even several times. Only a few foreign writers were able to reach such success. His works were introduced into Italy in the second half of the 1920s thanks to the relentless effort of the Italian Slavists. However already during the next decade, and continuting for another 20 years, we bear witness to a peculiar choice of translations (several short stories and two books for children) while his most significant novels of the period weren't translated at all. It wasn't until the 1960s when the uniterrupted stream of translations started to flow again, with first appearance of his novels and other completed literary works.
