Anhand der direkten sowie auch indirekten Erwähnungen in der Senecas Sammlung der unterschiedlichsten rednerischen Mittel Oratorum et rhetorum sententiae, divisiones, colores, die bekannter als Controversiae und Suasoriae ist, wird die Senecas angebliche Bewunderung von Augustus und seiner Regierung überprüft. Auch wenn Augustus als eine nachsichtige und großzügige Persönlichkeit in der Senecas Beschreibung anscheinend wirkt, durch diese Idealisierung dringt Angst und Spannung ein, welche die kaiserliche Macht in den Rendnern weckt. Es zeigt sich, dass Seneca Rhetor die Augusteische Regierung als den Verlust der Demokratie und die Bedrohung der Rechte bewertet hat. ER -
